New England

FREE foliage weekend in the autumn of New England? I’ll have mine again in a handy Homewood Suites by Hilton.

Apple picking, autumn leaves, pumpkin pie, yard sales, fresh cider, dirt roads, covered bridges…ah, New England in the fall! Bed and breakfast inns are excellent, and that’s where I usually stay, but last year I had some points that were going to expire, that I didn’t even know I still had, until I got an email from “hiltonhhonors” telling me that I had to use them or lose them. I saw that I had just enough for a night in the Homewood Suites in Dover, in southern New Hampshire, just over the Maine border.

Best bonus? They allow pets! So we could take our cherished Cleo with us…and, by the way, a fantastic website to help you find lodging that allows you to bring your dear dog along is bringfido.com. And for when you cannot, we have found excellent sitters on both rover.com and dogvacay.com.

Staying in southern New Hampshire allowed us to check out the coastline over by York and Kittery, too, and then a short ride later we were doing a high quality hike at pretty Stonehouse Pond in Rochester. Topped Saturday night off with an excellent dinner at Christopher’s Third Street Grill in Dover. A perfect weekend!

And actually our weekend was even better than perfect. Really, it was a gift, because we wouldn’t have even discovered some of these places were it not for that e-mail. It made me explore! Thanks to Hilton’s timely reminder, I looked at the map, did a little research, and the next thing I knew we had a fabulous fall New England weekend.

Hilton’s current bonus offer on the following card will give you almost enough for 2 nights in New England, a great start. http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/earn-use-points/credit-cards/index.html

Ayuh, that’s a good deal. Thank you, Hiltonhhonors.
