Recently a relative and I applied for co-branded credit cards from American Express- the Delta Platinum. What a disaster!!! Their communication has turned out to be harassment more than anything. We both got emails stating they needed more info (in the form of a copy of a utility/mortgage bill, credit card statement, etc.) and that the deadline to get this information to them, was October 15 for one of us, and October 26 for the other- allegedly before they made their decision. Fine.
And then began the deluge of calls to both of us- literally at least 5-10 per day every day in a row, for the last week and a half or so (we’ve both been extremely busy without a chance yet to send the requested documentation). Every alleged human on every single call that we answered, who said they were calling on behalf of American Express, wanted to check in with us on the status of our application- and had no record of the too many other identical calls we received. Sometimes we got three phone calls with 5 minutes of each other! What the hey? American Express’s communication did not used to be so dismal and annoying! And if we didn’t answer, we got countless voicemails. Is this what the future looks like? Not only that, when I went to send them scans of the info they wanted, I learned online that they already made their decision- and I would have to wait to get a letter in the mail within the next week or two to find out what that decision even is. Ugh!!! Sometimes this pursuit is VERY frustrating. But, is it worth it?
